Mega Mall Armenia will differ from the capital’s other malls with its bigger size. Currently it is the largest commercial building in Armenia with floor area about 105 000 sq. m. including parking lots and other serving areas. The main building’s area is 25 000 sq. m.
Due to sloping terrain of the construction site part of the building has four stories, and another - five.
Despite its big size and complicated structure, it will have quite simple orientation inside the building due to many helpful connections between the floors. Currently the finishing works are ongoing.
Automated Underground Parking Lot
Besides open parking lot located around the mall, there will also be 15 000 sq. m indoor two-story car lot with automated parking system. Before entering the line, the driver will see on the screen the number and location of free and busy parking places marked accordingly with green and red lights.
Main Entertainment and Trade Places
Mega Mall Armenia will have two-story entertainment and game zone (5800 sq. m.) where the first indoor karting in Armenia to open. A waterfall swing, a new kind of entertainment in Armenia, will also be placed at entertainment and game zone.
There will also be a food court which will consist of 12 restaurants and cafes, 4 cinema halls and а big fitness club with 2000 sq. m. area.
The main trade outlets will be a large computer electronics and appliances store (10000 sq. m.), Yerevan City hypermarket (5600 sq. m) and a wholesale agricultural market (2000 sq. m).
A new hotel complex will be built at the "Republic Square" subway station in Yerevan. The construction is planned for 2011-2014.
The government allowed Yerevan city mayor to provide an area of 5850 square meters for new hotel construction site. According to a data provided by the city hall, the hotel will contain conference room, sports and game rooms, beauty salon, restaurant and a cafe.
Responsible authorities announced that the hotel will be built based on a number of existing features of the historic city center, which will ensure the integrity of the neighborhood. Hotel will be developed by "Tashir Group" with which the city administration has already signed an agreement.
The proposal to build this hotel was made last year, but official discussion started on July 21 at the Yerevan Urban Council meeting. As a result of voting, at a ratio of 24 "for" and 3 "abstained"Counsil approved new hotel development project.
It should be noted, that many architects are protesting the project, as they believe that by doing so the city is losing its architectural and historical heritage. But let's don't make premature conclusions and try to see the positive aspects of this project. Such projects are very much important for Armenian investment-hungry economy, they create new jobs, and finally, create new earthquake-resistant buildings. Recall that almost all old historic center buildings of Yerevan must sooner or later be reconstructed because of their poor earthquake resistance. Of course, it's strategically much more correct that the future development of Yerevan and especially its center to be done without further increasing the density of the building and plan new developments on the sites of an old and the most earthquake-dangerous buildings, and as a result gradually gain more and more earthquake-secure capital.
As Yerevan mayor's office informed, 50 years old “Korean” bridge will open new opportunities for the capital after its reconstruction. The bridge directly connects Davtashen and Kanaker-Zeytun districts of Yerevan and additionally provides an opportunity to travel to Kotayk and Aragatsotn regions bypassing Yerevan.
This program is for unloading the traffic of the capital.”We will be able to drive directly to Tbilisyan Highway, without entering the city, which will reduce the traffic load. Anyway, we cannot repair solely the bridge and solve this issue, the road also should be rebuild. Now drivers rarely use this route because of its deplorable state....”, mentioned the first deputy mayor Hrachya Sargsyan.
Originally it was planned to strengthen the bridge and build a new road, however, the study showed that the foundation of the bridge was in disrepair, so it was decided to build a new one. The director of the factory of reinforced concrete bridge structures Minas Minasyan explained, “In fact, we must demolish an old bridge and build a new one. Existing is only 4 m long, but the new one will be 8 m, and it will have pedestrian walks from the both sides”. The work is expected to be completed this fall.
