Zinc coated and Aluzinc coated sheets are two common types of roofing used in construction. While both offer corrosion protection and durability, there are significant differences between them. Aluzinc coated sheets consist of steel coated with a layer of a combination of aluminum, zinc, and silicon. Aluminum provides excellent corrosion resistance, while zinc increases the strength of the material. Galvanized sheets consist of steel coated with a layer of zinc. The zinc layer acts as a protective barrier against rust and corrosion. The corrosion and rust resistance of aluminum galvanized sheets is much higher compared to galvanized sheets. The presence of aluminum and silicon provides enhanced protection against corrosion and rust, making Aluzinc sheets an excellent solution for high humidity and coastal areas. Experiments have shown that Aluzinc sheets serve for more than 50 years, which in the case of high-quality galvanized sheet is about 15 years, depending on the density of the zinc layer and the quality of the galvanization. Although zinc-coated sheets also have corrosion resistance, they may not be as effective as Aluzinc sheets in high-moisture or corrosive environments. Zinc coatings can wear away over time, leaving the underlying steel vulnerable to rust. Aluminum galvanized sheets have excellent heat resistance properties. Experiments have shown that there is no discoloration or oxidation at all up to 315°C, the discoloration and oxidation process begins at 400°C-450°C and only fades when it reaches 500°C. Aluminum galvanized sheets also have light reflecting properties, reflecting 70%-75% of light, keeping them cooler in hot weather, reducing the need for cooling inside the building. The light reflection property also contributes to durability. Performing the same heat resistance experiments on galvanized sheets, the following results were obtained: up to 250°C there is no discoloration or oxidation, 250°C-300°C begins the process of discoloration and oxidation, reaching about 350°C it fades. Galvanized sheets also have lower thermal reflection compared to aluminized sheets, reflect light 30% -40%.
