According to Interfax news agency, on September 6 the tallest building of Tajikistan, a 22-storey business-center "Dushanbe Plaza" opened in Dushanbe. The press-secretary of Dushanbe City Hall Shavkat Saidov mentioned that the building is 92-meters tall. The building was built in the center of Dushanbe, 50 meters away from the main square of the country Dusti (Friendship). The total construction budget of the building amounted US$ 33.6 million. The business-center with total area 40 thousand square meters will have two restaurants, hall for fashion shows, conference-hall, offices and hotel rooms. In the two towers of "Dushanbe Plaza" will work 12 elevators, and a two-floor underground parking lot. It should be noted, that before "Dushanbe Plaza" construction Tajikistan had only two 16-storey residential buildings in the capital.

Construction costs in Switzerland are more than 25 percent higher than anywhere else in the world, according to the annual International Construction Cost Comparison Report released by asset consultancy EC Harris. The annual report, which benchmarks the construction costs in 55 countries across the globe using UK prices as a baseline, found that Europe continues to be the most expensive continent in which to build, providing eight of the top 10 entrants in the final league table. According to the report, the price of construction in Switzerland is 71 percent higher than in the UK, where costs are now more than 20 percent below their peak price in mid-2008. Overall, the UK is now tied with Bahrain as the 12th most expensive place in the world to build, up four places from 2010 where it finished in 16th place. Denmark retained its position as the second most expensive place to build, closely followed by its Scandinavian neighbour Sweden. Australia and Canada were the only non-European markets to make it into the top 10 although Bahrain just missed out, finishing in 12th place overall alongside the UK. India and Sri Lanka were tied as the cheapest countries in which to build with construction costs estimated to be 72 percent cheaper than the UK baseline. Mathew Riley, head of Cost and Commercial at EC Harris, said, that it was no surprise to see that Switzerland and the Scandinavian countries are the most expensive places to build as high labour costs and the need to import materials are all combining to drive prices up. The report also underlines the need for Western economies to start planning ahead now to guarantee access to the raw materials needed for future construction projects. During the economic downturn global supply chains have shifted their focus to meeting the demands of economies like China and India and are likely to continue to prioritize them over the coming years as they offer the greatest revenue growth opportunities.

In the framework of events dated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia's independence, new terminal of "Zvartnots" airport will be put into operation on September 16, airport's press office announced. It should be noted, that in the past 20 years this is the largest public construction project commissioned in Armenia. The total project budget amounted US$ 224 million. Total area of the new complex is 34 thousand square meters; a registration hall consists of 46 check-in desks and a new two-storey 20 thousand square meters parking area for 600 cars. The new terminal is equipped with central heating, modern and high-quality ventilation system. The building also has a 9-point earthquake resistance. Works on upgrading the international airport "Zvartnots" began in 2002, and the construction of a new terminal in 2008.

On September 9 Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will launch the official operation of the Dubai Metro Green Line, which spans 23 kilometers and comprises 16 stations, reported Gulf News. The Red and Green lines of Dubai Metro will intersect twice; first time at the Union Station; which is the biggest underground metro station in the world spanning an area of 25 thousand square meters, and second time at Khalid bin Al Waleed Station; which is one of the most dazzling metro stations across the globe. Metro riders can transfer between the two lines through these two stations. According to the article, 14 trains will be operated during peak hours and 10 trains during off-peak hours with a service frequency (headway) ranging from 6 to 8 minutes. Accordingly, the number of trains operated on both the Red and Green lines will shoot to 50 trains during peak times and 28 trains during off-peak times. As reported by 2daydubai.com, work officially commenced on the construction on metro on March 21, 2006, groundwork's began in February, 2006. The first phase (US$ 4.2 billion) covers 35 kilometers of the proposed network, and the second phase (US$ 12 billion) includes extensions to the initial routes on both lines. The red line of Dubai metro opened to public on September 9, 2009.

As reported by Arab news, on August 19 Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz laid the foundation stone for the historic expansion project of the Grand Mosque, which covers 400 thousand square meters northwest and northeast of the mosque, and will increase its total capacity to more than 2.5 million. According to informed sources, the total area of the existing Grand Mosque is 356 thousand square meters accommodating 770 thousand worshippers, while the new expansion covering an area of 456 thousand square meters will accommodate 1.2 million. The new US$ 21.8 million project will comprise three parts: construction of a new building, expansion and development of courtyards around the mosque, including walkways, tunnels and toilets, and development of service facilities for air-conditioning, electricity and drinking water. A number of new multistoried hotels will establish at the end of the courtyards of the new expansion. Vast pathways will be created between the building for pilgrims and worshippers to reach the mosque. Al-Masjid al-Haram is the largest mosque in the world. Located in the city of Makkah, it surrounds the Kaaba, the place which worldwide Muslims turn towards while performing daily prayers and is Islam's holiest place. The mosque is also known as the Grand Mosque.
