Reconstruction of the football stadium in Goris (Syunik province, Armenia) will begin in April this year. Reconstruction works are fully scheduled for completion in 8 months. The restoration works were planned to begin in April, but the weather conditions are still not very favorable for the start of construction, at least in the first week of April. Hopefully, the nature will be favorable to us, and the reconstruction works will start at least in mid-April. It is noteworthy, that the complete overhaul of the stadium and the programs for developing football in the region are being implemented since December 2018 with financial support from a Swiss philanthropist of Armenian origin and together with FFA (Football Federation of Armenia) and Goris municipality. Goris stadium was built in the 80s, and so far no repair work has been performed. New stadium is designed for 3500 spectators. 1 million USD will be invested in the project. There will be 2 open football pitches, changing rooms and indoor gym. In addition to the reconstruction of the stadium, it is also planned to build a football academy for 300 children. At the end of 2018, 90 Armenian children received sport shoes, football accessories and balls with the support of the Swiss-Armenian sponsor. The Mayor of Goris, in his turn, stressed that initiatives for the development of sports in Goris should have tangible results, and the community will make every effort to do greatest progress in this direction.

Two hydro power plants (HPPs)-namely, Meghri and Gharachikar-will be built on the Arax River with Armenian-Iranian cooperation. The groundbreaking ceremony of Meghri HPP was held on November 8 on the Armenian side of the border, reported News.am. The agreement on the hydro power plant construction received in 2007-2008. Two inter-governmental agreements have been ratified by the parliaments of both countries. Meghri HPP will have an installed capacity 130 megawatts and produce about 800 million kW/h electricity per year. The plant will be constructed in compliance with the internationally accepted environmental standards. The investor from the Iranian side is "Tavan Ab Araz Company" which, in line with the already-signed agreement, will resolve all matters connected with Meghri HPP's construction and starting of its operation. The construction will be carried out within 5 years and, 15 years thereafter, the plant will be transferred to the Armenian side at no cost. Also, an agreement is reached whereby solely local manpower will be used for the plant's construction.

As reported by press-center of Ministry of Territorial Administration RA, third class irrigation channels Akhlatyan and Goris and pumping station Vorotan-2 were put into operation in Syunik region on July 15. All restoration works were funded by "Millennium Challenge Account - Armenia." To restore the channels Akhlatyan and Goris were invested US$ 82 thousand and US$ 328 thousand respectively. It should be noted, that this two channels together can irrigate about 160 hectares of agriculture lands. The restoration budget of pumping station Vorotan-2 was about US$ 2. 228 million. According to the press-center of Ministry, "Millennium Challenge Account - Armenia" has already provided about US$ 2. 7 million to reconstruct irrigation infrastructure in Syunik region.

Today, in October 16, as it was scheduled earlier, was launched reversible ropeway to Tatev monastery complex through Halidzor gorge with the length of 5.7 km, which is currently the longest in the world. Ropeway is a part of the "Tatev revival" project, which also includes the reconstruction of the monastery, the construction of the hotel and infrastructure improvements. The opening was attended by President Serzh Sargsyan, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, other authorities of the republic and guests. The ropeway construction was completed by "Doppelmayr Garaventa Group" Austrian-Swiss company which is world's leader in this field. The total journey by cable car up to Tatev Monastery takes about 11.5 minutes, the highest point above the canyon is nearly 330m. In each direction will move one carrier with a capacity of 25 people. Note that the "flight" to the monastery in this air car is not for the faint of heart ... The cost of the project "Tatev revival" was originally envisaged in the range of $ 20-25 million, but subsequently the cost of the works go up to $ 50mln. Project was funded from several sources. More than half of the fund were invested by Friends of Ruben and Veronica Vardanyans' Fund, and the Government of Armenia mainly financed infrastructure development.

At the August 20 sitting, the Armenian government made an amendment to the RA government's Protocol Decision on Approval of the List of Measures Proceeding from the Speech of RA Prime Minister at the National Assembly. In particular, the section "Implementation of New Energy Projects of Regional Significance" in the decision's appendix was laid down in a new version and the construction of Meghri hydropower plant was included in the list. The construction work is to be done in 2010-2015. According to the RA Government Press and PR Department, the necessity to make the indicated amendment arose in connection with the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding on the Construction of the Meghri Hydrpower Plant which was signed between the energy ministries of Armenia and Iran during the Armenian president's visit to Iran. Approving the decision, RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan addressed the problems related to the financial stability of Armenia's energy sector. He proposed taking a protocol decision for ensuring the financial stability of the energy system. "For preventing a rise in the tariff of power sold to ultimate consumers, there is a necessity to fill the financial gaps in the energy system at the expense of state enterprises operating in the sector," the prime minister said.
