The world knows Armenia mostly for its church architecture, which has a great influence on the construction art of other countries, and vice versa. In July 2019 the book “The Architecture of Cathedrals of Armenians in the Territory of Ukraine” was published in Ukraine, where the author tells about the buildings of Armenia and Ukraine, provides information in sketches, maps, tables and picture. Through the prism of architectural features, the book covers the history of Armenia and the Armenian Apostolic Church. “I was brought up in an atmosphere of respect for the history and culture of different nations, in particular for Armenia and Armenians”, tells the author of the book Maria Arsenyan. “I think that churches since ancient times were the focus of spiritual and cultural life of people. Due to historically unfavorable events (wars, etc.) Armenians had to migrate to other countries. And of course, the Armenian church played an important role in preserving the authenticity of the resettled Armenians.” For her PhD scientific subject Maria Arsenyan chose a complex and voluminous theme “The architecture of the churches of Armenian communities in Ukraine of XI - XIX centuries”. “Armenian architects had their influence not only on Ukrainian architecture, but also the architecture of other nations living on this territory. Based on the materials that I analyzed, the Armenians played an important role in the formation of the stone architecture in this region. In addition, it is important to note that many Armenian churches were originally wooden, and over time, were changed to stone. So it can be assumed that the Armenians also had a certain influence on the wooden temple architecture. From the other hand, the architecture of Armenian colonies was of course influenced by the traditions, as well as the architectural styles of nations living nearby. To a greater extent, Armenian Uniate Churches (Armenian Catholic Church) were subject to the influence and use of non-characteristic elements in the Armenian classical temple architecture. For example, in these churches there were such interior elements like organ and cathedra, which was dictated by the Catholic canons.”

According to AnalitikaUA.net, the Union of Armenians of Ukraine has informed that a considerable work has been done on the site provided by the Kiev city authorities for the construction of the Armenian Cathedral. The decision to start the construction of the Cathedral was made in 2012, but the construction works did not start until a number of key issues were solved. As previously reported, the construction of churches is one of the main activities of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine. According to the head of the UAU Vilen Shatvoryan, the construction of churches, besides to serve Armenians of Ukraine, mostly aimed to represent Armenian culture to the people of Ukraine.

As reported Ukrainian Komsomolskaya Pravda, the Armenian community in Ukraine plans to build an Armenian church. The church design is already done. According to newspaper, the construction will start this spring, most probably in March and will end in 2015. The total area of 40 meters tall church will be 1 thousand square meters. At first, the Armenian Community planned to build the church in historical Podol area, but later, due to problems with the land allocation, building site moved to the Kharkov district of Kiev. Besides, the cathedral site will include an Armenian school and a cultural center. 16 cross-stones will be moved here from Armenia. We also note, that the construction funded only by local Armenian community.
